Competence is Bliss

    It's almost impossible to participate in a social group or general online forum and not come across some sort of theological debate or discussion. These discussions can be quite dangerous if one is not prepared. I have definitely come across some very difficult questions that challenged my understanding of my own beliefs. I came to realize that besides just reading the Bible, reading other spiritually related material is imperative in our journey to knowing and understanding Christ.

    God wants us to love Him, for He first loved us (1 John 4:19). And there is no better way to express your love for someone than to strive to know them completely. To love Christ is to know Him.

    My people are destroyed from lack of knowledge.
    "Because you have rejected knowledge,
    I also reject you as my priests;
    because you have ignored the law of your God,
    I also will ignore your children.
    (Hosea 4:6)

    One of my favorite resources to turn to when I have a question is ApologeticsPress.org. It is a non-denominational Christian Apologetic site that archives essays, discussions, sermons, eBooks, news articles, etc that prove what is written in the Bible by factual evidence, scientific deductions and in some instances, mere logic and reasoning. The site's content is written without irrational assumptions and with a clear, deliberate and easy to understand tone.

    The authors range from priests to established researchers and everything in between. The topics covered span alleged Bible Discrepancies to Darwin Debates, Scientific Curiosities to Contemporary News and so much more.

    It's a great resource that can help shed light on intriguing questions as general as What Happened to the Dinosaurs? to as specific as Mark's account of Peter's denial of Christ seemingly contradicting the other Gospels (in terms of the number of rooster crows and denials) and thus "proving" the imperfection of the Bible.

    When you find yourself confronted with a question that seems to shake your faith or present a seed of doubt, know that there is an answer and that there are resources to help our understanding of the Bible. With technology, the answer is at our fingertips and there is really no excuse in being ignorant.
